In a solar energy system, the inverter is the controlling device that converts power between the DC and AC components.
The main function is to power the AC load. Such power can come from either the solar panel, the battery, the grid or the generator.
It also charges the battery using energies from either solar panels, the grid or the generator.
Nowadays, the inverter is also a hub that sends data to the Internet for remote monitoring.
Types of Inverters
Will the system send energy to the grid? If so, it uses an on-grid inverter. Otherwise, it uses an off-grid inverter.
- Hybrid inverters: Hybrid inverters work with solar panels, batteries, and the grid. They smartly switch between power sources and store excess energy for backup or later use.
- Off-grid inverters: Off-grid inverters power homes without a utility connection. They convert solar energy and manage battery storage for complete energy independence.
